Haverfordwest Badminton Club Celebrates the Success of Second Annual Club Championship

Haverfordwest Badminton Club proudly hosted its second Club Championship this weekend, with 14 pairs competing for the club’s prestigious trophies: the Castle Championship, the Prendergast Plaque, and the St Thomas Spoon. The event brought together players of all skill levels for a day of competitive yet fun badminton, marking another milestone for the club's growing badminton community.

Champions of 2024

  • Castle Championship Winners: Dan Jenkins and Becky Jones, Runners-Up Connor Williams and Hannah Walters.

  • Prendergast Plaque Winners: Anoop Thomas and Anish KK, Runners-Up David Davies and Joltin Rappai.

  • St Thomas Spoon Winners:  Dan Lewis and Tomos Waters, Runners-Up Connor Doidge and Josh Phillips.

A Tournament for Everyone

The club championship is designed to welcome all players, with teams progressing to one of three categories based on their results in the initial league phase. This format ensures that everyone has the opportunity to experience the excitement of tournament badminton while striving for a spot on one of our magnificent trophies, handcrafted and generously donated by Neil Hart Joinery in Milford Haven.

Building a Strong Badminton Community

Since its formation in 2021, Haverfordwest Badminton Club has made great strides in promoting badminton in West Wales. This year alone, the club has:

  • Launched the new West Wales Badminton League, bringing back league badminton in Pembrokeshire for over 20 years.

  • Revived the Pembrokeshire Closed Badminton Competition, which hadn’t been held in over a decade.

  • Hosted the Badminton Wales, West Wales Graded Tournament in June, bringing national competitive badminton back to the region for the first time in over 30 years.

The annual Club Championship is a key part of the club’s mission to create a vibrant and inclusive badminton community. With events like this, Haverfordwest Badminton Club continues to put badminton back on the map in Pembrokeshire, offering players the chance to develop their skills, forge new friendships, and celebrate the joy of the sport.

We thank all the players, supporters, and volunteers who made this year’s championship a success. Here’s to another year of growth and achievement for Haverfordwest Badminton Club!
